Who said pets can't eat salt?

I believe that people often hear about the "salt" in pet food. Some people think that pets don't need salt, and salt is not good for pet health. This understanding is wrong. Salt is an indispensable substance in the pet's body. It is only needed much less than our humans. For cats and dogs, the right amount can promote the secretion of their digestive juices, thus promoting their appetite.

What is the effect of salt on cats and dogs?

The main components of the salt are sodium chloride, sodium, chlorine, and potassium, which are the most important electrolytes in body fluids. Cats and dogs need food intake to maintain normal physiological functions, and salt can also cause slight irritation to the gastrointestinal mucosa. It has the effect of increasing gastric acid secretion and enhancing digestion; salt is a mineral category among the six major nutrients and plays a very important role in maintaining normal physiological functions of mammals. Therefore, cats and dogs are not unable to eat salt, but must eat salt, but the right amount of salt intake is necessary. In addition, cats sweating and urinating cause salt loss, so there is more demand for salt.

Excessive salt intake

It will cause too much salt to be discharged normally. It will cause pet hair to be rough and dull, and it will cause a lot of hair removal; it will increase the tears of pets, increase the appearance of tears, affect the appearance and even cause eye diseases; Salt can also cause cats and dogs to picky eaters; excessive intake of salt can cause kidney burden, causing various kidneys, heart, high blood pressure and other diseases; excessive salt intake can cause pets to drink a lot of water, which can easily cause diarrhea, resulting in dogs and cockroaches poisoning and other symptoms.

Salt intake is too low or does not eat salt

The various substances contained in the salt are essential minerals for the mammalian body. If it is lacking, it will lead to the decline of pet physical strength, weakness of the whole body, dry and dull skin, poor mental state, and various diseases. There will be fatigue and dizziness; insufficient salt intake will cause the pet to stop growing prematurely; if you do not give the pet any salt, it will cause many bad symptoms, decreased vision, nausea and vomiting, rapid heartbeat, and even Will die. Therefore, cats and dogs have less demand for salt, but they cannot but give them salt.

So how do we balance the salt intake of pets? In puppies, the minimum salt content is 0.76%, and the minimum salt requirement for adult dogs is 0.15%. To meet this amount, dog health can be guaranteed; if it is watery, the proportion of salt should be the feed. More than 1%, if it is dry dog food, the ratio of salt should be less than 1%. Cats rarely sweat, so it requires less salt, and adult cats need about 0.4 grams per day.
